Peroni Nastro Azzurro Hits The High Seas With Nautor's Swan 45 ...

Newport, R.I., USA (14 June 2006) - Today, Peroni Nastro Azzurro, the jewel in SABMiller's international premium brand portfolio, announces that it is partnering with Nautor's Swan 45 Class in a bid to pay tribute to its sailing heritage and together create a new and compelling Italian legacy for yacht racing. The stylish Italian beer brand will act as the exclusive sponsor of the international Swan 45 Class fleet. The relationship marks a new chapter in Peroni's long-term support of sailing, with the Peroni Nastro Azzurro Swan 45 Class setting sail in the Swan East American Circuit during the Centennial Newport to Bermuda on 16th June 2006.

"As we continue to introduce Peroni Nastro Azzurro into new and exciting markets around the world, we wanted to develop a stylish, long-term global sponsorship property with a like-minded brand that really leveraged Peroni's sailing heritage," says Chris Taylor, SABMiller's International Brand Director for Peroni Nastro Azzurro.

The Department of Local Government and the Environment, is taking part in the 14th Foodlink National Food Safety Week, and its Food Safety Unit will be promoting good food hygiene and food safety, by way of demonstrations at local supermarkets. The theme for this years National Food Safety Week is on raising awareness of the 4 Cs for Food Safety: Cleanliness, Cooking, Chilling and Cross-contamination.

What now, Sir Paul?

At 25, Paul McCartney recorded the tongue-in-cheek When I'm 64 about a couple growing old together. Today, as he finally reaches that age amidst the very public and ugly break-up of his marriage to Heather Mills, MARTIN VENGADESAN looks at how Sir Paul has fared in love and life.

HIS emergence from working class boy into global superstar is well documented, but how much of what has happened in the course of his life could Sir Paul McCartney have envisaged?

Surely he never thought that at on his 64th birthday an age he blithely sang about in his youth John Lennon would have been dead some 26 years, both his beloved first wife Linda and George Harrison would have succumbed to cancer and his second marriage would have crumbled so quickly. And, I must ask, could he have envisaged that Queen Elizabeth II would still be sitting on the throne of England?

It Matters to Brits

YOU'LL be pleased to note that there is a healthy amount of British riders entered at this weekend's British GP at Matterley Basin, in both the MX1 and MX2 classes, so you'll, hopefully, get to cheer on some of your favourites as you also witness Stefan Everts's last GP ride on British mainland soil. .

2006 FIFA WORLD CUP: Dortmund the ace up Germany's sleeve

Small wonder, therefore, that the team is riding to Dortmund on the crest of a wave, with both players and fans brimming with optimism and confidence. "The atmosphere can't be beaten. It's like a volcano, bubbling up, and hopefully it's going to erupt," grinned coach Jrgen Klinsmann in anticipation of the match, which will be Italy's first and only taste of the Westfalenstadion at this FIFA World Cup.

Defender Christoph Metzelder plies his trade with Borussia Dortmund and thus knows the ground like the back of his hand. Perhaps it is this fact that makes him even more confident than his coach when he says: "The match and the atmosphere will be the best that Germany has ever seen. Being able to come back and play again in Dortmund was all the motivation we needed."

Germany played a group match in Dortmund, against Poland on 14 June, and the fans were right behind the team every minute of the way, as the hosts struggled before finally making the breakthrough in injury time, when substitute Oliver Neuville gave them an all-important 1-0 win and set them very much on the road to success.

From past, a lesson for today

I LIKE TO keep old books around the house, even though many of them sit on shelves unopened for decades. Occasionally, though, they provide remarkable insights into the past and perspectives on the present.

For example, recently I pulled from a shelf a heavy bound volume of The Educational Record for 1950, a quarterly publication of The American Council on Education. A year's subscription was $3, and each issue contained serious scholarly articles like "Higher Education in Postwar Austria."

Glasgow team tips the city as insurance base

Glasgow is being tipped as a good place to set up an insurance or reinsurance company in a bid to attract more financial services business to the city.
After two major international insurance companies opened offices in Glasgow, a team from Scottish Enterprise and Glasgow City Council has been actively selling Scotland's biggest city as "an insurance and reinsurance destination".
This would put Glasgow up as a rival centre to Lloyd's of London, New York, Bermuda and Dublin.
"Glasgow is already a very strong financial centre," said Jim Watson, head of growing business at Scottish Enterprise Glasgow. "Historically, it has always had insurance companies here and we want to build on that by attracting more insurance and reinsurance companies to come to the city."
Scottish Enterprise Glasgow, in conjunction with Glasgow City Council, have been on a whirlwind tour of London, wining and dining influential insurance industry executives last week.

McGuinness - Simply the best! Pt. 1

John McGuinness shattered the record books in Friday's 6-lap Senior TT, taking his 11th TT victory in total and upping the outright lap record to a sensational 129.451mph. The Morecambe ace broke his record from Saturday on the opening lap and then went quicker still to stamp his authority on the race. Although it was tight in the early stages John and the HM Plant Honda pushed hard and at one stage his lead was over 30 seconds but for the final two laps he rode to his signals and eventually took the chequered flag some 25 seconds ahead of runner-up Australian Cameron Donald with Kiwi Bruce Anstey in third. Like the rest of race week, the Isle of Man was bathed in glorious sunshine and the heat was at its highest so it was going to be a gruelling 6 laps for the competitiors. As expected, the opening lap was incredibly close and at Glen Helen John led by just 0.8seconds from Ian Hutchinson with Donald just a further second back.
