Visit of IAM Assistant Chief Examiner on 6th July

The Assistant Chief Examiner of the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM), Stephen Mead, is to visit the Isle of Man on Thursday 6th July. The local group of Isle of Man Advanced Motorists have arranged for him to give a talk at the TT Hospitality Suite at 7.30pm which is open to everyone interested in driving or motorcycling. The Hospitality Suite is located in the Grandstand complex on Glencrutchery Road and there is ample parking nearby. Also, Isle of Man Police and Fire and Rescue Service vehicles are to be liveried with the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) logo. Although a similar association was established between the IAM and the North Wales Police last year, the Isle of Man is the first place where the IAM logo will be displayed by both the Police and Fire & Rescue Services. The association illustrates the mutual aim all three organisations to improve road safety by raising the standards of drivers and motorcyclists on the Island.

Giving $37 billi000,000,000n

Academics despise and respect him. Money managers hate and love him. Berkshire Hathaway investors adore him. And now, when Warren Buffett is giving away 85 per cent of his $44 billion wealth, philanthropists the world over will watch and probably imitate him.

For, in just five letters, all dated June 26, to five charities, the worlds second-richest man will be giving away about $37.4 billion. Thats more than what anyone, anywhere has given ever. To put that number in perspective, it is more than the GDP of 138 countries and the combined GDP of the worlds 52 poorest nations, from Aruba, Isle of Man and Andorra to Tuvalu, Niue and Tokelau.

Successful tarmac test for Fagg in Ireland - Pt. 1

Last weekend saw Isle of Man based co-driver Rob Fagg travel to Ireland to contest the Shell Donegal International Rally alongside MSA British Rally Elite member James Wozencroft in the Dealer Team Suzuki Ignis Super 1600. Isle of Man Steam Packet Scholarship recipient Fagg and Wozencroft were using the event as a test prior the upcoming tarmac rounds of the Tesco 99 Octane British Rally Championship which they are contesting this year. After a successful recce and test prior the event the team were looking forward to the 22 stages that lay ahead over the three day event. It was not long though before they encountered their first problem, a half spin mid way through the first stage left them caught between two grass banks on a blind left hander with very little room to manoeuvre, and with cars running a 30 second intervals there was not much time until the next car would be on top of them.

Feature: Noughts and crosses

As World Cup Fever grips the nation, it seems a St George's Cross plastered onto any product you care to mention, from toilet seats to England hoodies for dogs (yes dogs!), allows the seller to add a nought to the price and several to the volume sold - but who owns the England 'brand'? .

Raconteurs Announce NYC Show, Single Details

Jack White's boy band the Raconteurs have announced a whopping one-date American tour, which will begin and end on April 7 at New York City's Irving Plaza. Whoa, slow down! You don't want to overexert yourself, man.

The show will be the White/Brendan Benson/Greenhornes supergroup's first American appearance. It follows a brief string of UK dates, including a gig in Scotland which White allegedly played dressed in full Scottish regalia, kilt and all.

Tailing the Raconteurs' big stateside debut by, oh, four months, is a stop at Lollapalooza 2006.

This is the big time:

04-07 New York, NY - Irving Plaza
08-04 Chicago, IL - Grant Park (Lollapalooza)

Both shows will be in support of the Raconteurs' debut album Broken Boy Soldiers, slated to hit shelves May 16 via Third Man Records/V2 in both CD and deluxe gatefold vinyl formats.
