Isle of Man News, Articles and Information
I have recently returned from the TT at the Isle of Man and I believe there are interesting parallels to the way Manx police handle the situation and the way the PSNI handle a similar situation at the North West 200. At night in Douglas the Manx police are out on foot, wandering through the crowds and speaking to the visitors. They are known for their friendly attitude and mingle freely. I was in a restaurant on the promenade and a constable came in and went round the tables, passing the time of day and chatting. This is not to say that they have a soft attitude to policing. When someone goes too far, they are known for their swift action. Contrast this with the North West 200 - boiler-suited men in the back of armoured cars, scowling at the people as they pass.
A busy road junction on the Isle of Man is to have cameras installed after several accidents caused by motorists going through red lights. The Department of Transport is installing cameras at Woodbourne Road and York Road in Douglas. Traffic engineer, Hazel Fletcher, says the cameras will be activated on Monday morning in response to a series of accidents at the site since 2000. She said that the cameras will help officials monitor patterns. Impatient motorists have been blamed for several accidents at the junction. The department has altered the sequences on the lights and the pedestrian crossing priority, but it has failed to ease the problem. .
Building on the success of the previous four Internet Security Awareness courses that have already taken place this year, The DTI are offering owners/managers of small businesses another opportunity to attend the IBS Consulting, Internet Security Awareness course delivered by Peter Ginty Head of IBS Consulting at the International Business School. A key enabler of e-business is security. However, there is a misunderstanding that security is all about IT security protocols. Its not, it is about people and awareness. Small/medium size organisations and consumers are the most vulnerable groups. In general, they are the least aware of the threats of cyber crime; they have the least knowledge of the basic steps that can be taken to protect themselves and they have the least assistance available to them.
A Diploma of Remedial Massage, and acupressure, shiatsu and sports massage qualifications soon followed, giving Mr McCarthy a good understanding of the body before he studied a form of myotherapy in 1993, now called SLM Bodywork. With skills to treat pain and injury, he started to specialise in the treatment of pain and injury achieving great results. The treatment is a hands-on holistic massage which gives outstanding results to alleviate pain and injury, he said. Tight adherent muscles are the cause of many ailments. This treatment is one of the most thorough remedial treatments available. Mr McCarthy has a vast knowledge and interest in sports medicine and sports nutrition and also incorporates Chinese medicine in his philosophy and practice, which results in a mixture of Eastern and Western principles in his treatments.
LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. -- Authorities worked Monday to recover the body of a man at the bottom of a steep ravine nearly a mile from where an 83-year-old Laguna Beach resident missing since June 20 was last seen on surveillance videotape. The body was discovered at 10:23 a.m. and reported to the Orange County Sheriff's Department, which turned the recovery operation at 31665 Isle Vista in Laguna Niguel over to the Orange County Fire Authority. Andre Mayenzet, who suffers from cancer and dementia, left his home in the private community of Three Arch Bay in south Laguna Beach for a routine walk about 5 a.m. that day. Surveillance camera footage showed him passing by a home and walking toward a trail head, but did not show him returning from the area. A community search effort that included the distribution of fliers resulted in tips from many people who thought they saw Mayenzet, who grew up in the Swiss Alps and resembled "Papa" Hemingway, according to his daughter.
