LONDON, July 3 (UPI) -- London police have a suspect in custody for an attack that critically injured Les Incompetents frontman Billy Leeson. The unidentified suspect was arrested Sunday, This is Local London reported on its Web site Monday. Leeson, 19, was punched and knocked to the ground June 22 after exchanging words with another passenger on a city bus. He got off the bus and was walking with his girlfriend when he was knocked to the ground and hit his head on the pavement. Leeson suffered a skull fracture and underwent a five-hour operation to relieve brain pressure Thursday, but has not yet regained consciousness. The punk band had performed at a London club shortly before the attack. .
Many patriotic Americans do not realize what the failed "flag-burning amendment" would have done. The proposed amendment would actually have banned desecration of the American flag. Here are some highlights from United States Code Title 4, Chapter 1: Sec. 7(b): ... When the flag is displayed on a motorcar, the staff shall be fixed firmly to the chassis or clamped to the right [front] fender. Sec. 8(d) The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. Sec. 8(i). The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever. (This is already punishable in Washington, D.C., by $100 fine or 30 days in jail.) These rules don't come from the Boy Scout Handbook, or even army regulations, but the 77th U.S. Congress.
CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE — A Cape May County grand jury Tuesday handed up a 23-count indictment against a Sea Isle City man charged with breaking into at least a dozen cars in April.According to the indictment, Michael P. Gifford, 18, faces 13 counts of burglary, four counts of fourth-degree theft, three counts of credit-card theft, two counts of the second-degree charge of using a juvenile in the commission of a crime and one count of third-degree theft.A second-degree crime carries a possible prison term of as many as 10 years, while the third-degree crime has a penalty of as many as five years and a fourth-degree offense can result in as many as 18 months in prison.According to initial police reports, Gifford, aided by a 17-year-old boy, stole cell phones, cameras, sunglasses and loose change from unlocked cars Easter Sunday.A homeowner reported seeing someone rummaging through her vehicle the morning of April 16, police said.Police said the pair were seen running from block to block and were cornered between 82nd and 83rd streets.
The 14th annual Mississippi Jubilee Storytelling Festival in Poplarville kicks off at 7 p.m. tonight behind the courthouse in downtown Poplarville "with stories to cheer the heart followed by bluegrass music," according to organizers.
