Yn Chruinnaght Committee Press Release Pt. 3

A pair of groups from Wales will be travelling to the Isle of Man for Yn Chruinnaght 2006. DAWNSWYR SIR CONWY was established especially to compete in the prestigious national Gŵyl Cerdd Dant festival in November 2004. They are an energetic team of Welsh folk dancers/musicians led by Dr Prydwen Elfed-Owens. The majority are teachers in schools within the county of Conwy. The team has spent a very busy year performing at various festivals including functions to welcome visitors to the county from the various countries of Europe and beyond. DAWNSWYR SIR CONWY have resurrected two traditional Welsh celebrations in the county namely the ancient Old Welsh New Year or Hen Galan on the one hand - with the arrival of the Mari Lwyd and company of six merrymen - and on the other hand, the Mayday celebration with a performance of the Welsh morris dance, Cadi Ha, to include a bedecked Summer branch and the colourful characters of Cadi and Bili.

THE Isle of Man is opposing plans to reopen the Thorp nuclear ...

The £1.8bn facility has been out of action since April 2005 when a leak was discovered. Over a thousand jobs depend on the Thorp plant having a future. The Isle of Man government has told the UK's Department of Constitutional Affairs that Thorp should not be allowed to reopen. It says BNG's report into the leak confirms its view that operational safety is vulnerable to mechanical faults and human error. Manx environment minister, John Rimington, said: “Some of the statements in this report really do undermine confidence in the operational safety of Thorp. Metal fatigue and equipment breakdown must occur to some extent in every industrial activity. However, with Thorp, it seems too great a reliance has been placed on rigorous checks on instruments and monitoring equipment to keep the plant safe – there is always the potential for human error.

TT2006 Ends on Terrific High for Uel Duncan Racing

Australian ace Cameron Donald ensured the 2006 Isle of Man TT Races ended on a high note for the Uel Duncan Racing team when he finished in a sensational second place in the final event of the week, the Senior TT. The 27-year old also put in a lap of 128.445mph to become the third fastest rider ever to have lapped the Mountain Circuit, a staggering performance in what was only his second appearance at the world famous venue. It completed an excellent week for Donald who also finished in the top five in the Superbike and Supersport races. It was a tougher fortnight for the other member of the team, Les Shand, as he fought back from a broken collarbone sustained at the North West 200, just two weeks before the TT. The world's most difficult course is tough at the best of times never mind when injured but Les put in a professional performance over the two weeks and finished three of his races, picking up two bronze replicas along the way, ensuring further representation for Uel Duncan Racing.

UK. Ebel runs like clockwork to take first win in Honda F4S ...

Crowds gathered for the opening round of the HF4S Powerboat Series this weekend which took place in Douglas Bay on the Isle of Man (Saturday 24 June 2006). Kicking off with the 150hp championship, Ebels Graham Foster-Vigors and Mick Horsfall took top honours after a nail-biting 9 laps, which saw Ebel setting the standard, holding off stiff competition from Delmar Flooring and Quality Job. Premier Cru had the best start, maintaining an early lead for the first part of the race. But Ebel were close behind and settling into a comfortable rhythm. Foster-Vigors said: We had a cracking start run and just kept our eyes on the start boat, slotting into second before the first turn. We had a fantastic racing line and managed to overtake Premier Cru in the rougher water around turns five and six. We put a lot of work in on the boat pre-season and it paid off Once passed, Ebel quickly built up a comfortable lead, finishing six seconds ahead of Premier Cru in second place.
